Classroom Themes:
November will be an exciting and busy month in the Kindergarten classrooms filled with lots of pre- assessments as us teachers prepare to start writing the first set of report cards that you will be receiving in December. That being said, as always we will be exploring and learning in fun and creative ways that will be sure to engage our students. This month students in Kindergarten will work around and learn about two different topics within the classroom.
Within the first topic students will be exploring animals and hibernation. Students will learn about the specific animals that hibernate in our environments and what they do to prepare before they go into hibernation. Through our learning centers students will have the opportunity to learn about how blubber keeps animals warm, build their own bear den, and many more activities that will be imbedded within the our play-based centers.
The second theme students will be learning about in the second half of the month is Family. Students will learn the importance of their place within the family unit and how each family member contributes differently within their lives. Furthermore, students will learn how families come in many different sizes, shapes and forms; learning that each is unique and special in their own way.
These two units will allow for excellent Spanish vocabulary acquisition throughout the month, and you can look forward to your children further developing their second language skills. As always our play based learning centers will continue to be based around letter recognition, mathematics, fine motor skills, building, and creativity. These will allow for lots of engaging and exciting learning experiences for our students as they spend time learning about animals in hibernation and the family throughout the month of November.
Remembrance Day Assembly:
Our schools Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on November 10th at 10AM in the main gym. Everyone is invited to join us for this assembly.
Those students who are members of Scouts or Girl Guides are encouraged to wear their uniforms that day.
***Please remember that there will be no school on November 11th
Parent Teacher Interviews:
November 19th and 20th will be the second round of parent-teacher interviews in the kindergarten classrooms. We encourage all of you to book appointments with your child's teacher as we will be reviewing each of your child's EYE scores; a pre-litteracy assessment that us teachers have been performing on each and every one of your children over the last month. We hope to see you all then! Conference Manager will open on November 10th at 4pm, there you can book an interview that is convenient for you.
Great Opportunity:
I wanted to remind everyone once again of a great opportunity for our young Spanish language learners that a fellow parent shared with me! The Calgary Public library is offering Dual-Language story time in Spanish for the months of November and December. This is an amazing opportunity for our young learners, and it would be a great activity for you all to do with your children if it works with your schedules. Kindergarten Christmas Concert:
Yes, it is already that time of year again! Just as a friendly reminder our Kindergarten Concert will be held on December 2nd this year. We just wanted to give you lots of notice for those that may need to change their schedules in order to be able to attend. Thanks!!
