Dear Parents:
Our unit for the months of February and March is focused on dinosaurs. Although dinosaurs are not actually in the Kindergarten curriculum, we plan to teach an interdisciplinary unit that includes outcomes from all subject areas, using the dinosaur theme (which young students are often naturally curious about) as the context in which students will learn a variety of skills.
Throughout the unit, students will have the opportunity to participate in their own paleontological dig, explore a Dinosaur bone bed in their own classrooms, as well as learn many interesting facts about dinosaurs that will help them make connections to deeper issues and bigger ideas. We will make a list of the students’ curiosities and questions to guide the unit based on their interest. We firmly believe in inquiry-based learning, so we have lessons prepared on a variety of topics, which can easily be interchanged depending on the students’ interests.
To carry on with the our Science exploration we will be starting to look at colour theory. We would very much appreciate your support by helping your children find small objects around the home to be used on the construction of our “wheel of colour”. If you could please send these objects no later than Tuesday, Feb. 17th. We are planning to paste few objects of different colours over a circle divided into 9 fractions. Each fraction will have a different color (blue, red, yellow, green, purple, orange, black, brown and white).
The information below includes a brief description of our unit plan for the month of February.
