Dear Parents:
Our unit for the month of April will be focused on the changes we see in throughout the Spring season and gardening. Through the exploration of Spring, students will learn about the natural changes we see in our environment; the clothes we need to wear throughout the season; how to plant and grow a variety of different plants and vegetables; while continuing to develop our Spanish language using the thematic vocabulary that is related to this unit.

Phonemic awareness
Throughout this unit we will be working on recognizing sight words of the same family and we will continue practicing the visual recognition and sounds of the first and last initial of words. This month we will also begin to work on our spelling, and have students to begin to sounds out words and label their drawings to the best of their abilities.
Social Studies
What does Spring look like in other countries? We will be looking at South American countries and how their Spring looks much different than ours in Canada, as it is currently Fall in the Southern Hemisphere.
Math
Patterns, geometrical shapes, number recognition from 1 -20. What is addition? We will begin to look at adding two quantities together to get a different number.
Fine Motor Skills
Develop fine motor skills through gardening. Through weeding, planting, watering and picking in our classroom gardens our students will continue to develop their fine motor skills.
Social Skills
Following routines in the classroom, while focusing on greeting adults when they arrive to school. Students will learn about the importance of stoping and saying "hello, how are you?" or "Hola, como estas?" when they arrive!

Nutrition, English and Spanish food vocabulary
Science
Review colour shading and the mixing of primary colours using celery and food coloring. Four seasons, weather and temperature.
